adventure-coasteering

1. What activities do you offer?

Along with Coasteering, we offer a range of other activities via Anglesey Adventures, all of which are weather dependant:

Adventure Days: Coasteering, kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, abseiling, sea level traversing, gorge scrambling, mountain walking, improvised raft building, orienteering and problem-solving are the core activities that we offer on our adventure day.

Skill Based: As well as the adventure activities we offer a range of skill based courses in the following disciplines, rock climbing, mountaineering, kayaking, canoeing and sea kayaking. Please see the website for further information relating to these courses.

2. How old do you have to be to take part?

We take children from the age of eight upwards for half and eco coasteering.  Full day coasteering sessions and adventure coasteering have an age restriction of 14+.

3. Can I book on the day?

Yes. If there places are available that is not a problem, however we do recommend that you try to book activities in advance to avoid disappointment.

4. Can we go out as a family?

Yes. We can tailor an adventure day that is designed especially for you and your family, if we do put together groups we will always do our best to ensure that you are with compatible people, which means that if you are going out as a family you will be put with other families.

5. Is it safe?

Outdoor adventure by its very nature will always contain an element of risk. If we were to try and make it completely safe you wouldn’t experience adventure and wouldn’t need us! We are experts at pitching adventures at the right level for a variety of groups, avoiding & protecting foreseeable dangers and maximising the fun elements of playing in our natural environment. Accidents do occur due to the nature of the environment that we operate in, but the reality is that your journey to us by car is statistically more dangerous.

6. Are the guides qualified?

Yes. We only employ experienced staff, trained and qualified with the relevant Governing Body and/or signed off following a rigorous training process, our guides hold up to date first aid qualifications and DBS clearance checks, so you can rest assured when you come out with us you are in highly experienced safe hands.

7. How fit do I have to be to take part?

If you can carry two bags of shopping up the stairs without stopping or run to catch a bus/ train when it pulls in a hundred meters ahead of you then you are probably fit enough to come along. You will be asked to complete a medical form before you set out, please make sure you complete it with as much detail as possible. If you have particular concerns please contact us by phone or use the form here.

8. Am I insured when on my chosen adventure?

Bookings with Coasteering Wales do not include personal travel or accident insurance; please ask your insurer for details of the cover necessary for taking part in our adventures. Coasteering Wales do hold public liability insurance via Anglesey Adventures to a sum of £5 million.

9.What happens if there is bad weather?

Coasteering can be affected by the weather in one way or another; high winds and rough seas. The proposed session will be adapted to meet the prevailing conditions and if this is inappropriate, you will be offered the opportunity to swap to another activity or rebook for another day.

10.When do the sessions start/finish?

Morning: 9.30am - 12.30pm

Afternoon: 1.00pm - 4.00pm

Evening: 5.00pm - 8.00pm (July/August only)

All timings are approximate and subject to change.

11. Where do I meet my guide?

For all of our activities, we meet at the beach or at an agreed location in Holyhead. Occasionally, for some courses, we meet at other pre-specified locations.  Participants will be updated by email with the location of the activity, up to 24 hours beforehand.

12. How far away are the sites you use for the activities?

We mainly run Coasteering from Porth Dafarch in Holyhead, though the weather will occasionally dictate a change in location to a beach near Amlwch or elsewhere on Anglesey.  You will be updated with the exact meeting location prior to the activity by e-mail.

13. Am I going to be stuck in a group with people much faster or slower than I am?

No. You will be put with people of a similar profile to your own in order to maximise fun and excitement for everybody.

14. Can I use my own wetsuit?

You can, although we wouldn’t recommend it for Coasteering as the wear and tear can be quite severe. It is also worth avoiding ‘shorty’ wetsuits for Coasteering.  We use CSkin 5mm winter wetsuits to ensure particpants are warm throughout the activities allowing them to enjoy the experience.

15. Can I hire equipment?

As our equipment is needed to deliver our adventure activities, we have decided not hire it out, however kayaks and body boards can be hired on request.

16. Is lunch provided?

Packed lunch is not included in the course cost however is available from us on request. Please make sure you order before your morning session.  For both Adventure Coasteering and a full day coasteering, you will need to bring packed lunches, drinks and snacks.

17. Can I pay on the day?

We cannot confirm your place until full payment is received and advise that all monies owed are settled before your arrival. This also gives you less to worry about on the day. Payment can be made by BACS transfer, paypal or debit/credit card, payment by credit card will be subject to a small fee.
